SALVATION
None of us are perfect, no matter what we were told when we were little. God’s Word says that we have all sinned (done wrong). Because of sin, we need a savior – this is our common condition. The only answer to this condition is Jesus. Below is a set of scriptures from God’s Word, found in the book of Romans. Please read through it and if you have further questions or want to share any decisions with us, please contact us. We would love to hear from you and support you in your next steps.
As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one” – Romans 3:10
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us – Romans 5:8
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord – Romans 6:23
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus – Romans 8:1
because, if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved – Romans 10:9-10
For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved – Romans 10:13
BAPTISM
Baptism is a public expression of your faith in and acceptance of Jesus as your Savior. While baptism doesn’t save you, it is a crucial step in the Christian journey, picturing the message of salvation: that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again to bring us new life. This act of immersion in water is a powerful symbol of our identification with Christ through the death of our old sin nature, being buried, and then raised again to walk in new life with Him (Colossians 2:12).
CHURCH MEMBERSHIP
While you won’t find the phrase “church membership” in the Bible, we are commanded to meet together (Hebrews 10:25). Scripture is filled with other references that point to an organized community where believers were not only counted but also cared for and discipled. Along with baptism, church membership is one of the primary acts of obedience as a Christ follower. Christ established the first church during his ministry through the calling of the apostles. We also see in Paul’s letters, written to specific congregations, imply that the early Christians clearly knew who the members of a church were. So, church membership was and is intended to be a natural outgrowth of biblical principles about community, responsibility, and spiritual growth that we see modeled in Scripture.
A CHURCH MEMBER WITH PURPOSE
Joining Eastfield Baptist Church (EBC) is a two-way relationship built on shared faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to follow Him in a covenant relationship with other believers. The following process is intended to help you understand membership involvement and to help identify areas where we support your spiritual growth.
- Attend a Membership Class – Includes the completion of a self-assessment and explains EBCs beliefs, history, values, and expectations for church members. This class will conclude with an affirmation of your alignment with our statement of belief and desire to become a member.
- Meet with a Church Leader – A short conversation allows the leadership to hear your testimony and answer any additional questions you may have.
- Commitment – If you desire to move forward in becoming a member of Eastfield Baptist Church, we ask that you come forward during a service to be formally welcomed by the church. Ask your church leaders for more information or to schedule some time for the class and further discussions.
- Service – Get busy serving as a greeter to start. We then recommend finding a long-term area to serve. Note: some areas of service require more faithful attendance and a criminal background check. As with the other areas, ask church leadership for more information if needed.
BENEFITS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Church membership will help you grow deeper in your walk with Christ, while supporting and being supported by a community that shares your faith and mission. Being a church member is biblical and comes with tangible spiritual, relational, and practical benefits and responsibilities for each of us.
- Accountability – One of the clearest advantages. When you’re officially part of a church body, pastors and leaders are better equipped to shepherd and support you.
- Community – You’ll have more opportunities to build relationships through our opportunities to worship together, finding an area to serve, and taking part in monthly membership business meetings. We request that you begin serving as a greeter or through our facility cleaning team. Other opportunities for serving will be available over time as additional requirements may be necessary.
- Foundation – From a biblical perspective, being a part of a church strengthens your spiritual foundation. You receive regular teaching, encouragement, and correction—all vital for Christian maturity. Practically, you also gain clarity on how to use your spiritual gifts in the context of a local body.
